Job summary

Berwickshire Housing Association (BHA) is looking for a graduate for a Finance role based in our Duns Office. The project is initially for up to 6 months with the potential to be extended for a further 6 months. The post holder will ensure the day-to-day production of financial and management information and assist with maximising recent investments in new systems.

Job Description

This placement provides an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that is changing how it delivers services to the group and maximising recent investments in new technology.

The Finance Graduate (post holder) ensures the day-to-day production of financial and management information for group companies under the management of the Financial Controller.

The post holder is an integral part of the team responsible for the services being delivered to group businesses (internal customers) meeting defined service levels in a period of significant change for the group. The key responsibilities include the following:

·         Assist with the preparation of relevant monthly performance reports

·         Analyse and investigate significant budget variances carry out any relevant follow up work

·         Assist with the preparation of the annual budgets

·         Assist with the preparation of quarterly management accounts for the Trustees / Board

·         Monitor financial controls and procedures for BHA Group Companies and promote compliance with the Financial Regulations

·         Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts by completing year-end reconciliations and audit schedules

·         Provide continuity of support in the absence of the Finance Controller to help maintain service delivery standards, with reference to the Finance Director as needed.

Skills / Experience

Essential

·         Excellent numerical skills, e.g. ability to calculate VAT

·         Strong analytical approach to work

·         Ability to work to strict deadlines within a demanding office environment

·         Good oral and written communication skills

·         Computer literacy including word processing and e-mail

·         Ability to work within and contribute to different teams

·         Courteous, effective and professional personal manner in all situations

·         Openness to change and critically assessing own performance

·         Confidential, trustworthy and honest

·         Strong work ethic and a commitment to the values of the group.

Desirable

·         Experience of computerised accounts, SUN Financials desirable

·         Experience of Management Accounting and Ledger controls

·         Experience in a Finance environment

·         An understanding of preparing year-end audit files

·         Experience of working in a group environment

·         Involvement in production of budgets.

Qualifications

Business/Finance related degree.
