An international academic publisher, based in Oxfordshire, is looking to recruit an Editorial Assistant to join their Major Works list. The list publishes multi-volume collections of reprinted materials in both humanities and social sciences and this is a splendid opportunity for a self-motivated and organised individual to join a small editorial team.
Responsibilities include: being the first point of contact with academic editors to ensure that contracted Major Works are delivered and published on schedule, to specification, and within budget; working closely with key overseas customers and co-publishers, and in-house colleagues in other departments; assisting in the creation and improvement of marketing pieces for external customers; and, as part of a small editorial team, assisting in the generation and development of new ideas that can be given the Major Works treatment.
The ideal candidate may have some experience of academic publishing, and must relish the prospect of managing and prioritising a demanding workload of complex publishing projects. S/he will have the confidence to work across a range of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, along with excellent communication, negotiation, and time-management skills. Close attention to detail is a must, as is a recognition of the commercial realities within which the list operates.
