Pressurelink Contracting Ltd and the Salford Business School at the University of Salford are seeking an ambitious individual to manage and deliver an exciting Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project. Based at Pressurelink offices, Bolton, Lancashire you will establish an e-business communication strategy to support business and operational processes; providing PCL with accurate and accessible information to enable operational and strategic decisions. There is a substantial development package of over £25,000 associated with this project which includes: the opportunity to complete a Diploma in Management and a postgraduate qualification such as an MPhil or PhD; and project specific training as necessary.
Established in 1993 by the current MD, Pressurelink Contracting Ltd (PCL) are a surface preparation and finishing specialist based in England and Scotland. Unlike other similar providers, PCL run the finishing and preparation function for their customers occupying part of the customer’s premises, this dictates the wide geographic spread of the company and the need for virtual organisation. The issues of virtual collaboration are to be addressed using a customised intranet solution. The company also lack automation of certain business process, many of which are labour intensive; the inability to transact electronically, develop new business opportunities and improve communication channels highlights the need for an electronic Customer Relationship Management System, as identified in the current marketing strategy.
As KTP Associate, you will gain a deeper understanding of IT project management, with the need to bring the project to completion in a commercially viable manner. Working in a competitive environment will expose you to commercial assessments and decisions such as cost vs price and impact on gross profit. This together with the practical application of both operations management and IT knowledge in a growing SME will allow the development of your IT management skills. Alongside these skills and attributes we require that you have or are nearing completion of a 2:1 honours degree (or higher) in Information Systems/Computing/IT; Business Management or Business Information Systems, including experience of software development and the social nuances of their development and implementation. Experience of Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Content Management Systems (CMS) are desirable. You must also be able to work as part of a team and independently. Candidates interested pursuing an MPhil/PhD are particularly encouraged to apply.
The management of PCL are looking to strengthen its future management team and views this KTP as a way of introducing new expertise in the areas of business process and systems improvement.
