Gretna Green Ltd is an independent family business involved in tourism and hospitality as well as ecommerce. The business was established in 1886 when it opened one of Scotland’s first visitor attractions: Gretna Green Famous Blacksmiths Shop, which is also a popular wedding destination.

Nowadays the destination is one of the most popular in Scotland; with over 700,000 visitors from all over the world coming to enjoy the heritage of Gretna Green and the shopping features offered. In addition the business looks after around 2,000 wedding parties and numerous business people who are guests at the company’s hotel: Smiths at Gretna Green. The company has also developed an online shopping strand to its activities.

With an internet strategy in place to generate more online shoppers and more actual visitors to the destination the company realises the power of digital marketing, including social media. The project to develop activity across all areas of digital marketing requires the added resource of a Digital Marketing Assistant.

This is a great opportunity for the successful candidate to learn more about ecommerce and the activity of digital marketing for commercial value. As a relatively new project the successful candidate will be heavily involved in assisting with the shaping of the strategy.

Digital Marketing Assistant:

Gretna Green Ltd, a tourism and hospitality business has an exciting opportunity for a graduate to work closely with Head of Sales & Marketing and Website Manager on their digital marketing strategy. The successful applicant will be involved in developing and implementing a social media campaign; assisting with research and activities relating to websites and blog posts and the generation of content for the Company’s own websites. This is a 12 month fixed term contract with a possibility of leading to a permanent role.

Project Description:

The objective of the project is to assist in the development and implementation of the digital marketing strategy to grow independent visitors from a range of UK and European markets; increase wedding enquiries and business for the hotel and also to drive more traffic to the ecommerce website.

Role Description:

The role will focus on all areas of online activity for Gretna Green Ltd, making use of inbound marketing channels for both B2B and B2C categories of the tourism and e-commerce markets Gretna Green Ltd wishes to target.

The graduate will be expected to carry out tasks including:

• Be responsible for delivery of social media activities through relevant channels of communication with content generated by the post holder

• Contribute towards the generation of ideas to communicate through social media channels: through consultation with department managers and attending relevant meetings as well as researching national themes and newsy events as they occur that GG Ltd can utilise for commercial benefit with related links

• Conduct continuous research in to emerging social media channels, blogs and websites and consider what benefit they can offer the Company

• Monitor and respond to any comments/reviews on social media relating to the Company, with guidance from Website Manager

• Maintain the social media/email marketing activity calendar

• Maintain the recording of results relating to social media activity carried out

• Take photos and video for online use

• Assist with maintenance and growth of databases

• Assist with email marketing campaigns

• Generate layout and content for company blogs

• Assist with product listings for the online shop

• When necessary assist with Keyword research

• Take direction on SEO projects, which will include changing/adding meta titles and meta description

• Be accountable for their own development through the Performance and Development Review (Appraisal) process seeking out opportunities to learn new skills.

Skills/Experience

Essential:

  • Knowledge and understanding of digital marketing/social media
  • Research skills
  • Very high communication skills especially writing skills
  • Innovative, creative and imaginative

Ideal:

  • Language skills (any or a combination of German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and French
  • Understanding of ecommerce and seo copywriting.

Qualifications

Business, marketing or related degree.
