Job summary

Comunn Eachdraidh Nis (CEN), an organisation with accredited museum status, is recruiting for a recent graduate to create an income stream by producing an up to date version of a local phone book as well as other publications. The 12 month project will also involve enhancing the website and developing an online shop which will attract more visitors and generate revenue for the business.

Job Description

Comunn Eachdraidh Nis (CEN) are recruiting for a recent graduate to create an income stream by producing an up to date version of a local phone book as well as other publications. Other planned publications include ‘A History of Port of Ness Harbour and the fishing industry’ and ‘The Butt of Lewis lighthouse 150th anniversary’. In house publications will be offered for sale via internet shopping on the website which will allow us to reach a wider audience. New publications will be added to our current in house selection which are also for sale in local retail outlets. It is vital for the long term future of CEN that as many income streams as possible are developed to ensure the doors remain open all year round. 

This project will assist the Comunn Eachdraidh Nis to develop:

  • A quality Museum
  • A Gaelic Hub
  • Base for Clan Morrison data
  • Digitised Archive
  • Gaelic Media resources
  • Research resources
  • Information Point for local sites of interest
  • Interpretation on local features and history
  • Resources on Natural History and place names
  • Tourism Venue
  • Retail area and tearoom facility

Skills / Experience

  • IT skills especially Desk top Publishing
  • Experience of community work in the local area
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Gaelic speaker

Qualifications

  • Degree in relevant discipline
