Job summary

Barr Limited has an opportunity within the Quarries Division for an Engineering Graduate in the role of Assistant to the Quarry Production & Distribution Manager based in Ayrshire near Cumnock but will involve travel of southwest Scotland.  This 12 month project will involve reviewing processes and system for the quarry business and identify a new market for a mobile concrete plant and facilitate its move.

Project Description

This project can be broken into two areas of responsibility. The first would be for the graduate to review the processes and systems currently in operation within the quarry business and implement improvements to enhance business efficiencies. Included in this review process will be health and safety procedures and systems used.

The second part of the project will involve identifying a specific market for our mobile concrete plant and prepare a business case for this as well as facilitate the start of the operation. This will form part of our business development plan looking at widening our geographical reach.

Planned Outputs & Outcomes:

The success of these projects will be measured through reviewing the progress made of developing the current processes and systems and if the mobile concrete plant has been relocated to an identified location within the agreed time frame.

Role Description

•        Establish a general grounding in manufacturing of coated road stone, ready mix concrete and aggregates.

•        Review health and safety systems used within the quarries and make recommendations.

•        Establish health and safety committee meetings with quarry teams.

•        Develop an understanding of how the mobile concrete plant operates.

•        Research markets for mobile concrete plants and prepare a business case for the chosen location.

•        Liaise with appropriate authorities to obtain planning permission and licences.

•        Responsible for the dismantling the mobile concrete plant and moving it to a new location.

•        An awareness of quality systems.

Qualifications

Graduate from undergraduate or above required with either Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering background.
