Overall purpose of the role:

To deliver effective merchandising for Comet.co.uk, driving web sales growth and delivering a best in class multichannel proposition. Drive commercial priorities and processes with category teams to ensure meet sales and margin objectives for Comet.co.uk, though increased on-site conversion and average order value. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure that the Comet website is aligned and delivering against commercial objectives for Comet.
  • Build effective working relationships with online marketing and content teams to ensure best in class site execution & efficient traffic generation.
  • Challenge and develop more efficient processes, ranges and ways of working across the e-merchandising team and with category teams.
  • Nominate and monitor performance for comet.co.uk real estate and use web analytical tools to understand performance of website ensuring best in class merchandising standards are met.
  • Understand unique requirements for online retailing and deliver against for the home appliance division.
  • To take personal responsibility for the day to day management and core delivery of KPI’s for home appliance e-merchandising. Top level KPI’s include:
      • Deliver Web sales performance
      • Improve on-line conversion
      • Improve Essentials / Warranty and add-on attachment
      • Further grow and develop delivery income through use of premium slots
  • To fully research, analyse and understand customers online shopping behaviours in order to be able to effectively challenge and develop suitable merchandising and promotional approaches and anticipate future requirements
  • To help develop and implement innovative promotional plans that meet Comet objectives and deliver web growth
  • Monitor competitor activity and implement strategic plans to counter that activity
  • Provide support for online IT projects, including requirements gathering and testing when required

Skills/Attributes required for the role:

  • Graduate calibre with 12 months experience in a commercial role.
  • A self-starter with the ability to solve problems and influence others.
  • Hard-working, good team player with drive and determination to succeed.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Creative with superb attention to detail.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Numerate with good analytical skills.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, with the ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • Basic knowledge of XML would be an advantage.
  • Must demonstrate a true passion and hunger to improve and develop the on-line shopping experience

What decisions does the role holder make?

Will be expected to make daily commercial decisions, with the support of the Product Manager to drive web influenced sales and profits.

What is the typical planning time frame for the role?

  • Monthly planning Weekly and Daily management
