Job summary

Aquila BioMedical is an ambitious start-up company based in the Edinburgh BioQuarter/Edinburgh University, offering specialist preclinical contract research services to pharmaceutical companies focussed on Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Autoimmune Disorders and Inflammation and Analgesia. We have an opportunity for a graduate scientist to initially work within the MS/Remyelination therapeutic area. The successful candidate would also be expected to cross-train across the company according to client demand.

Job Description

Project Description

This project is being implemented to validate a new company service in the area of Remyelination. This will generate company data using known compounds (which would be used as controls in client studies) to demonstrate the service in marketing materials.

Success will be determined through positive completion of appropriate validation studies as determined by the company.

Role Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the validation and conduct of a variety of studies within the remyelination/MS area.

Key responsibilities will include:

·         Study start-up activities, SOP and Protocol preparation

·         Introduce quality systems for the new service

·         Execution of appropriate validation studies

·         Analysis of data and interpretation of results

·         Preparation of study reports

·         Assist in the preparation of marketing materials

·         Cross training in lab procedures across other company services as required

Skills / Experience

Essential

·         Good IT skills, including general use of Word, Excel, and preferably stats packages - Prism

·         Experience of working in a lab environment

·         Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

·         Good Team Player

·         Confidence to work Independently under own initiative

Ideal

·         Knowledge/experience of cell culture/sterile techniques

·         Knowledge/experience of immunohistochemistry and use of confocal microscopy

·         Experience of Using Image-Pro software (training can be provided)

Qualifications

Essential

·         Minimum of life science degree (preferably Pharmacology/Physiology/Medical related degree)

Ideal

·         MSc in life sciences (possibly with research based project in therapeutic area of MS)
