So where do you want to go first?

Training and Development

Join a Tesco graduate programme and we’ll set you on a career path for life. Whatever that path may be, we’ll give you all the training, skills and opportunity you need to get on – early on.

Your training and development are our top priority because they allow you to take responsibility earlier in your career. On all of our graduate programmes, we'll help you put together a personal development plan that involves both operational training and the behavioral skills required for your role.

There are also lots of courses that will develop your technical knowledge. Depending on your programme, this may include technical or professional skills like leadership, negotiation or presentation. There are also core company skills including personal effectiveness, communication and time management.

Rest assured, you'll have access to all you need to get ahead. In addition to training, we'll also support you with professional qualifications where appropriate. The opportunities to develop and get on within Tesco are wide-ranging, the Global Management Programme is just one such example.

Whatever business area you choose, you'll have an induction to give you an idea of who we are. You'll meet other graduates - your first step to a network of contacts that will be valuable throughout your career. And your induction will touch on the training you'll get.

Office and Distribution Management graduates will also spend valuable time in a store, as part of your induction; as this is essential to understanding our business and customers. After all, you need to know how the decisions you'll make affect customers and the people who deal directly with them.

The most valuable training you'll receive will be working in your actual business area. In a store, office or distribution centre, the best lessons come from rolling up your sleeves.

These principles run through everything we do, but what do they really mean for you as graduate?

Put simply you'll always have lots of support. To help you progress, you’ll be partnered up with a buddy and a mentor.

Your buddy will be a graduate from last year, who'll be there to help on an informal basis throughout your programme. You’ll find them especially useful during your first few months, when they’ll be able to help you get used to day-to-day working life at Tesco. Your mentor will be a senior manager or director, there to guide you throughout your career.

Of course, you will also have a line manager to support your development, whilst your training will help you to adapt to any situation. And you'll get more than you can imagine out of learning on-the-job - with real experience, not theoretical exercises.
