Who are we?
1956 - First insulation distribution branch opened in Sheffield as Sheffield Insulations Limited
1989 - SIG lists on the London Stock Exchange as Sheffield Insulations Group with 30 insulation distribution branches
1990 - First acquisition - CDL a three branch supplier of ceilings productsin the UK. Acquisition of Freeman Group, the second largest insulation materials distributor in the UK with operations in France. Acquisition of interest in Isokauf in Germany giving SIG its first exposure to the German insulation market
1995 - Acquisition of Komfort Systems a major UK ceiling and partitioning manufacturer
1996 - Acquisition of WKT, the second largest insulation distributor in Germany and purchase of the remaining equity in Isokauf. First presence in Poland acquired. Acquisition of Asphaltic, a major UK roofing supplier
To date - Further bolt-on acquisitions in ceilings and partitioning in the Netherlands and France, industrial insulation in the US and roofing in the UK
Our graduate training programme offers a structured but varied two year training scheme tailored to ensure that you are suitably prepared to take the first steps into management. During this time you will be involved in all aspects of our business including Sales, Customer Liaison, Stock Management and Purchasing.
After completion of the two year structured programme, Trainees will have the opportunity to progress by being allocated to a Branch or Department for more intensive experience in the areas of their choice.
Training and Development
We have a two-year scheme for Graduate and Commercial Trainees, which is tailored to ensure that these individuals are suitably trained in preparation for taking the first steps into management.
We see our ideal Trainees as self-motivated individuals who are well educated, who can "think on their feet" and take initiative. A drive to succeed is imperative and a flexible approach to relocation throughout the country is desirable.
The structured, but varied, training programme consists of spending time at different branches, gaining an understanding of the business as well as the culture of the Company. In addition, there is a comprehensive suite of internal training courses covering sales, management skills and business techniques.
During the first year, the Trainee will build up a portfolio of learning. This will be enhanced by project work to include the development of an area of business at their allocated Branch. Regular reviews will take place with the training department and the Trainee will be assigned a training mentor to help them develop in the most appropriate way to suit personal needs
During the second year, Trainees should be able to prove their management knowledge by completing the NEBSM "Introduction to Management" Certificate. This may lead to further certificate and diploma courses dependent on their needs.
