Who are we?
Saint-Gobain Building Distribution is Europe's number one building distribution business. Over 12,000 people at over 720 sites across the UK and Ireland. Brands include household names such as Jewson and Graham. We are a valued division of Saint-Gobain.
The majority of the places are in Operations. If you join our business through the Operations route, you can expect to be managing your own building distribution business in just two years. There are also some opportunities in our Central Functions area which includes Marketing, IT, Finance and HR.
Training and Development
Saint-Gobain Building Distribution (SGBD) is a successful and expanding business, and we are prepared to invest in your future.
The SGBD TALENT programme runs for two years, split into four six-month placements. This is so that you get a broad view of different parts of our business and receive training in different areas. Our Graduate Development Manager will help find the right placements for you at each stage, so that you are constantly learning.
Whether in Operations or Central Functions you will receive a comprehensive and powerful training package to develop your management, inter-personal and business skills.
Throughout the two years, you will be supported both by an experienced graduate who can help you settle in, and by a senior manager who will advise and guide you on your long term plans.
After your first two years, you will be well equipped with all the necessary skills and development opportunities to enjoy an accelerated career with SGBD.
What we look for
You're talented and enthusiastic, you've got drive and ambition and you've got the initiative and entrepreneurial flair to succeed in our business. We want you to harness those talents to help drive our business forward, and to give yourself a great start to your career.
We're looking for graduates who are just as good at working within a team as they are working on their own initiative.
We're looking for people with strong communication skills - we will need you to be great at working with a wide range of customers and suppliers.
You've probably got (or will expect to get) a 2.1, as well as having a proven academic record and strong A Levels. Language skills would be an advantage but not a necessity.
But we're not just interested in your academic record - we also want to hear about any previous work experience you've had, and any other activities you have been involved in alongside your academic study.
"I chose this graduate programme because it offered continuous development with true variety. There is no typical day for me - I can be in the office, juggling stock orders, dealing with customers or, occasionally, even loading up a delivery vehicle! 'I began at Graham, Leeds and Huddersfield as a graduate trainee and now I'm helping to run a branch at Jewson, Halifax. But it's not just work. The scheme has actually been fun. The courses are great and there's plenty of opportunity to meet other graduates in the same boat as you.
All you need is the enthusiasm, commitment and motivation to get where you want to go."
