For 2005, we will be offering an internship programme and a two-year graduate programme. The ideal candidates will come from an insurance discipline, as both schemes will concentrate on developing our Underwriters of the future. We will be offering the chance for a small number of graduates to participate in a highly rewarding programme.
We will provide an intimate environment and an encompassing approach that will encourage dedicated individuals to flourish and excel.
Training and Development
The Brit Internship programme commences in the first week of July. The 12 week programme will be an opportunity for an undergraduate to spend time in our three Underwriting Centres of:
- London Markets Reinsurance
- UK Division
The programme will consist of three, month long placements in each of the Underwriting Centres. As part of the scheme each undergraduate will be asked to produce a paper on a specific aspect of Underwriting/Insurance. The overall aim of the internship will be to provide you with a basic understanding of our business and will allow an insight into our company culture.
GRADUATE PROGRAMME The 2 year Graduate programme will be the pathway to employment at Brit.
Starting on in October the graduate programme will be a varied scheme that will encompass all areas of the business. The programme will consist of a two year placement, with one of the Underwriting Centres. Each graduate will also spend six months gaining an overview of the support functions, which will provide you with a rounded knowledge of the business.
Those on the graduate programme will also follow our group training plan; studying for ACII and participating in our internal development programme.

Joining Brit is a big achievement, currently I am working in the casualty division. There's no routine to my role. It's up to you to chase your ideas and get things done. That's one of the things that impressed me about the organisation. I was placed in the D&O section (Director's and Officer's liability insurance), but I was soon in the thick of things working closely with the senior underwriters.
Apart from the work itself the culture of the organisation is also attractive, the people are friendly and supportive and the environment is challenging. Most importantly, my experience so far has always been that individual contributions are recognised and appreciated.
