Overview
NATS has an excellent reputation as a first class provider of air traffic management. As the world of ATM evolves towards international as well as domestic competition, the mission of NATS is: "To be the World Leader In Air Traffic Management".
Career Opportunities
NATS operates a Direct Entrant Graduate Scheme which brings in a number of graduates each year to various departments within the company. The particular roles that graduates move into varies widely depending upon the projects that are being implemented at the time and also by the knowledge and skills demonstrated by the graduates themselves.
It is expected that those that join our Graduate Training Scheme have the potential to rise to achieve senior management positions within the company.
We have a strong record in recruiting and retaining graduates since the scheme launched in 1989.
Training and Development
The training scheme we offer is accredited by the Institute of Electrical Engineers and is a key element in the path towards recognition as Chartered Engineer. The competencies we develop are those specified by the Engineering Council (now known as ECuk).
The Scheme is a 2 year Training Programme comprising two months initial formal training followed by top-ups of approximately two days per month of formally delivered training.
In addition other training may be provided where local business needs justify it. During the 2 years graduates are placed with various parts of the organization to gain wider understanding of systems and processes.
What we look for
The minimum academic criteria for all those engineers wishing to aspire to Chartered Engineer Status is now MEng. We would also consider appropriate BEng + MSc.
Our recruitment is targeted at recent graduates with a 2:1 BEng in an appropriate subject generally considered minimum entry level.
We are looking for people from a variety of academic backgrounds to take up roles in areas such as Engineering Systems, Software, Test & Integration, and Operational Research.
What we offer
For all graduates joining the Training Scheme, the starting salary is £23,577. For the engineering graduates, after 15 months and providing training is progressing satisfactorily the salary rises to £28,537.
Upon successful completion of the 2 year training scheme they transfer across to permanent grades with a further increase to their salaries depending upon their performance to date.
Scientific and Research graduates join a separate salary scheme and although the starting salary is the same the progression is slightly different.
