The IEMA is a not-for-profit membership organisation whose primary aim is to promote the goal of sustainable development.
In order to achieve this, the IEMA provides environmental practitioners and professionals of all levels with advice, support and assistance to ensure that the methods they use and the knowledge they receive are in-line with current best practice guidelines in environmental management and assessment.
As a membership organisation, the IEMA provides its members with professional recognition for their knowledge and professionalism with a hierarchy of membership levels.
This hierarchy ranges from Student and Graduate - which are the base levels of membership for individuals who are new to the environmental field, who would like to receive more information about, or who are studying for a environmental qualification; to Full and Fellow Membership for individuals that have demonstrated substantial and outstanding achievement in promoting sustainable development and practice in environmental management and assessment.
The IEMA provides up-to-date information on issues and developments for all fields of environmental management and assessment in a variety of ways. This is achieved mainly through its publications, such as the IEMA's highly-regarded magazine ?the environmentalist? which is distributed to members as part of their membership, and the Practitioner series and Perspectives series of publications. The IEMA also arranges major conferences with workshops to see and hear, first hand, the latest developments in environmental management and assessment.
